I highly recommend you check out Death Cab for Cutie’s current single I Will Possess Your Heart. Apart from the nice imagery that gives me itchy feet, the best part of this song is that it goes for eight and a half minutes with a tasty driving baseline all the way through it. It is not often the contemporary pop “artists” bang out a song longer than four minutes. As a matter of fact it is over four and a half minutes before the vocals start.
I’ll have to get their album. The chance to support a mainstream band bucking the trend for creative purposes is enough for me in the hope that other bands not only produce longer songs, but release them as singles.
Note: I do like another one of their songs; I will follow you into the dark, so I know purchase won’t be entirely in vein if the rest of the album stinks.
